Online procedure
Applying for or renewing a fishing license for the first time
With this online application, you can apply for your fishing license online.
Citizen-friendly and digital: simply fill out this online application directly via your internet browser. In many cases, this will save you a trip to the authorities.
If you wish to fish in Bavaria, you must carry a valid fishing license and, as a rule, a valid permit and hand these over to the supervisors for inspection on request.
You can apply for a fishing license at your local municipality.
The fishing license for adults is issued as a lifetime fishing license. Young people who have reached the age of 14 and have successfully passed the fishing examination are also issued a fishing license for life.
Young people (persons who have reached the age of 10 but not the age of 18) can obtain a youth fishing license without first taking the fishing examination. However, this only entitles the holder to fish when accompanied by an adult fishing license holder.
Special regulations apply to severely disabled persons under certain conditions.
Anyone who is only staying in Germany temporarily and does not have a place of residence here (e.g. tourists) can also apply for a fishing license without a prior examination.

Anyone wishing to fish in Bavaria requires a fishing license and must pay a fishing tax.
Anyone wishing to obtain a fishing license must generally have successfully passed the fishing examination in Bavaria. Fishing examinations taken in another state of the Federal Republic of Germany are recognized under certain conditions (ask the municipality).
The responsible municipalities provide information on possible exemptions from the examination requirement for professional fishermen, fish farmers and trainees in this profession or ethnic German immigrants. The same applies to exemptions in the case of severe mental or physical disabilities and to exemptions for the presentation of examination certificates and fishing licenses from other German countries.
You can apply for a fishing license with unlimited validity (lifetime fishing license). If you only pay the fishing tax for five years, you may only fish during this period. The youth fishing license is issued with effect from the date of issue until the age of 18.
