Firearms; Application for a preliminary registration with an existing green firearms license for an individual

The permit is issued by the competent authority through an entry in the firearms ownership card (preliminary entry).

If you are a sport shooter and hold a green firearms license (WBK), you must have your recognized shooting sports club confirm that you need this firearm to practice your sport.

With the preliminary entry, you have one year to acquire a firearm that requires a permit.

In the application for a permit to purchase a firearm, you need only specify the type of firearm and its caliber. Additional details, such as the manufacturer and exact model, are not required at this stage. You must provide this information only after you have purchased the firearm and fulfilled your obligation to report the purchase to the competent authority. The firearms dealer must also report the transfer of the firearm to you.

You must demonstrate that you can store the firearm you intend to purchase safely.

You must apply for preliminary registration with the appropriate firearms authority. Submit the application along with the required documents.

To fill out the application more quickly, you can use your NWR identification numbers (NWR-ID):

• Your personal NWR-ID (P- or F-NWR-ID) for your personal information
• the permit NWR-ID for your firearms permit (E-NWR-ID)
• the firearm or firearm component NWR-ID (W or T NWR-ID).

You can obtain the NWR-IDs by submitting a request to the relevant firearms authority.
