License to Practice Alternative Medicine; Application

To practice medicine without a medical license or certification, one must obtain a license under the Alternative Medicine Practitioners Act. Various requirements must be met for this.

In principle, a license to practice alternative medicine may not be restricted to specific fields. An exception applies to the field of psychotherapy and to the health care professions of physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and podiatry.

The applicant must be at least 25 years of age and be able to demonstrate that they have completed at least elementary school. In addition, the following are required for the issuance of a license as a non-medical practitioner:

• Good character
• Medical fitness for the profession
• Assessment of knowledge and skills by the competent public health department

• Documentation in accordance with the requirements
  (e.g., birth certificate, resume in table format, current medical certificate, current official certificate of good conduct, proof of high school graduation)

• Fees in accordance with the Cost Act for the decision on the application (150 to 500 euros).
• Plus fees and expenses for the health assessment conducted by the competent public health department in accordance with the schedule of fees under the Cost Act or the appendix to the Health Fees Ordinance (up to 500 euros)
