Animal husbandry; implementation of animal welfare controls
Under the Animal Welfare Act, a plethora of facilities and animal husbandries (e.g., livestock farms, slaughterhouses, laboratory animal facilities) must be inspected regularly to ensure compliance with legal animal welfare requirements.

Controls are permitted here even without concrete suspicion. Private animal husbandry is subject to control by the veterinary office in case of suspicion.
Supervision by the competent authority is subject to:
.- Animal farms including horse farms,
- Commercial riding and driving operations
- Facilities that transport animals commercially,
- Animal trades,
- Animal exchanges
- Circus operations and animal shows,
- Animal shelters and similar facilities,
- Organizations, that import vertebrate animals (other than livestock) from abroad and sell or broker them for a fee,
- commercial dog trainers,
- commercial fighters of vertebrate animals as pests
- zoological gardens,
- establishments where animals are slaughtered,
- establishments in which.
- animal experiments are conducted,
- experimental animals are bred,
- vertebrates are used for the purposes specified in § 6 para 1 sentence 2 No. 4 Animal Protection Act or
- vertebrates are killed for scientific purposes.
To remedy conditions contrary to animal welfare, the authorities are authorized to make the necessary orders. The range extends from the oral order to eliminate identified deficiencies to the removal of the animals and the initiation of fine proceedings.
