Informationen
The State Ministries of the Interior and for Education and Culture recommend that the local authorities deploy school crossing patrols and school route assistants and that the school transport authorities deploy school bus crossing patrols and school bus attendants.
The school transport services are set up by the local authorities and the authorities responsible for school transport under their own responsibility. Several municipalities or school transport authorities can set up a joint school transport service. The school, the parents' council, the local road safety officer, the police and the local road safety organization must be consulted before a school transport service is set up. The Landesverkehrswacht Bayern e. V. and the local road safety organizations will support the local authorities and, where possible, provide the necessary equipment.
Pupils can be deployed as school crossing patrols and school bus crossing patrols. Suitable adults are needed to volunteer as school crossing guards or school bus attendants.
School crossing guards or school bus attendants receive weatherproof yellow warning clothing and a trowel so that they can be recognized as such.
Your work can be recognized in an appropriate manner at school events or similar. You may also receive an expense allowance from the municipality for your voluntary work.
During the activity itself, as well as on the direct route to and from your place of work, school travel assistants or school bus escorts enjoy statutory accident insurance cover. This insurance is free of charge.
Pupils can only be deployed in the school route service if they volunteer, are at least 13 years old - in exceptional cases 12 years old, e.g. in the case of lower secondary schools -, are personally suitable for the school route service and have a written declaration of consent from their parents or guardians. Suitable pupils are nominated by the head teacher in consultation with the class teachers and the traffic teacher.
To be able to volunteer as a school crossing patrol assistant or school bus attendant, you must be of legal age, physically fit, reliable and punctual. In addition, you must be able to stand outside in all weathers and always keep calm and keep an overview, even under stress or in difficult situations. It is often the parents and relatives of schoolchildren who help to ensure a safe journey to school. However, any adult who meets the requirements described above can help with the school route service.
Suitable pupils are nominated by the head teacher in consultation with the class leaders and the traffic teacher.
Adults can register for voluntary work.
School crossing assistants or school bus attendants come to their place of work near the elementary school for about half an hour in the morning before school starts and/or at lunchtime at the end of lessons. They help schoolchildren to cross the road at traffic lights, crosswalks or road crossings. A location can also be supervised by several school crossing patrols, who divide the days or times between them. If possible, we will assign you to a crossing near your home. Before your first assignment, you will receive a briefing from the police. During the school vacations, no school crossing patrol is required.
