Game Warden; Application for Certification

Certification as a game warden may be denied only if the applicant does not hold a valid annual hunting license or if there are concerns regarding the applicant’s personal reliability or professional competence. These grounds for denial are mandatory.

Professional competence requires sufficient practical experience and knowledge of the relevant legal provisions.

As a general rule, there are no concerns regarding professional competence if proof is provided of several years of practical experience in managing a hunting district and of the necessary knowledge of the duties and powers of certified gamekeepers. As a rule, this knowledge is demonstrated by successfully completing a course geared toward the duties of a game warden. Proof of the required knowledge may also be provided through prior training in forestry, law enforcement, or law, or by other means.

Applications for the certification of game wardens must be submitted to the lower-level hunting authority.

• The following documents are required:
  
  • Certificate of Completion of a Game Warden Training Course
  • A recent photograph of the game warden
  • Hunting license (copy), if applicable
  • Proof of several years of practical experience, if applicable

Cost range: 7.50 to 20 EUR, plus the cost of the service badge
