Price labeling; information on the obligation to indicate prices

Good price comparison possibilities are an important prerequisite for the functioning of competition on the market. They are ensured in particular by the following regulations:

• In the case of offers based on catalogs, lists of goods or on screens (Internet) as well as in the case of advertising stating prices and written individual offers, the final prices must be stated. In the case of mail-order sales, it must also be stated whether and, if so, to what extent additional delivery and shipping costs are incurred.
• Anyone offering services (e.g. hairdressers, dry cleaners) must display price lists for their main services in their store. In exceptional cases, e.g. travel agencies, insurance companies, it is sufficient to have price lists available for inspection.
• In the bar and dining areas of restaurants, the prices must be listed in complete price lists. Furthermore, a price list with the main food and drinks on offer must be displayed next to the entrance.
• The supplier may only reserve the right to change prices if there are delivery or performance periods of more than four months.
• In the case of loans, the total costs must be stated as the annual percentage rate of the loan and referred to as the "effective annual interest rate".

In the event of breaches of the obligation to indicate prices, the consumer should point this out to the trader and, if necessary, contact the competent district administrative authority (district office, independent city) or the nearest consumer advice center. It should be noted, however, that mislabeling does not oblige the trader to sell the goods at the advertised price.
