Education & School
Vibrant and forward-looking
School-based and extracurricular education complement each other. All neighborhoods need good schools—that’s why schools are being renovated and prepared for the digital future. In addition, full-day programs at elementary schools are being expanded. The adult education center and the work of numerous community organizations enable lifelong learning and make use of the neighborhoods to offer new learning spaces.

Plans and projects
"The Future of Elementary Schools and Full-Day Care" Program
Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, the legal entitlement for elementary school children—initially for first graders—will take effect. This entitlement will be gradually expanded to include subsequent grade levels in the years that follow. The legal entitlement is intended to guarantee full-day educational and care services for schoolchildren. This imposes an obligation on the City of Erlangen to consider how to ensure this legal entitlement through youth services and schools, to take appropriate measures, and, in particular, to make elementary schools “structurally ready” for this purpose.
Plans and projects
Creation of a memorial to the victims of euthanasia
In collaboration with various project partners, a place of remembrance and the future is to be established on the grounds of the former Erlangen Sanatorium and Nursing Home (HuPfla).

Erlangen Vocational Training Campus (CBBE): Construction of a New Workshop Wing and Renovation of the Vocational Training Wing
Construction work at the Erlangen Vocational Education Campus (CBBE) is ensuring a future-oriented learning environment for the trade-based apprenticeship programs at the Erlangen Vocational School. A new workshop wing and a cafeteria are being built here for all schools on the Erlangen Vocational Education Campus (CBBE). The classroom and administrative wing is being renovated.
Plans and projects
Expansion Building at Emmy Noether High School
The expansion is necessary to meet the space requirements at Erlangen’s high schools in the short term as part of the reintroduction of the G9 curriculum. A two-story modular expansion building is being constructed at the Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium on the northern teachers’ parking lot. The ground floor will house a preparation room and three chemistry classrooms, while the upper floor will contain five classrooms. The extension will be designed to be accessible. As part of the project, an additional seventy bicycle parking spaces will be created, and replacement trees will be planted.
