Children, Youth, Family
Diverse and vibrant
The needs of parents, children, and young people—and of families in all their diversity—serve as a guiding principle for much of the city’s planning. Childcare capacity is being expanded, and a wide range of programs in sports, culture, and neighborhood initiatives are creating a city worth living in for people of all ages.
Projects in the Area of Children, Youth, and Families
Plans and projects
"The Future of Elementary Schools and Full-Day Care" Program
Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, the legal entitlement for elementary school children—initially for first graders—will take effect. This entitlement will be gradually expanded to include subsequent grade levels in the years that follow. The legal entitlement is intended to guarantee full-day educational and care services for schoolchildren. This imposes an obligation on the City of Erlangen to consider how to ensure this legal entitlement through youth services and schools, to take appropriate measures, and, in particular, to make elementary schools “structurally ready” for this purpose.
Plans and projects
Dechsendorfer Weiher Playground - West Bank
On the west bank of the Dechsendorfer Weiher, an attractive, modern, and safe play and recreation area for children and families is being built on approximately 400 square meters.
Plans and projects
Renovation of the Habichtstraße Playground
The playground on Habichtstraße in Alterlangen is set to undergo a major renovation and redesign. New playground equipment and a new landscape design are intended to turn it into an attractive place for children and families to play and spend time.
