Biography

I live in Erlangen with my wife and am the father of three adult daughters.

Born and raised in Erlangen in 1971, I graduated from the municipal business school in Röthelheimpark in 1989. After completing my training as a police officer, which included assignments in Würzburg, Nuremberg, and Eichstätt, I worked for four years at the Munich Police Headquarters before returning to my hometown in 1997 to join the Erlangen-Stadt Police Precinct. There, I most recently served as an operations trainer and coordinator for police operations training at the Erlangen station.

I began my career in local politics in June 2002 as a member of the local council in my hometown. Six years later, I was elected to the Erlangen City Council and served as chairman of the CSU caucus from April 2018 to April 2020. From May 27, 2020, to April 30, 2026, I served as mayor and council member responsible for sports, health, fire safety, and disaster response. Since May 1, 2026, I have been the mayor of the city of Erlangen.

Summer Care - Spots Still Available During Summer Break

Summer vacation is just around the corner. It’s good to know that there are still plenty of summer camp spots available for schoolchildren in Erlangen.

A large, fallen tree lies across a park bench, lifting and damaging parts of the sidewalk and the bench itself; all around are green trees and a peaceful park setting.

Severe Weather: Over 200 Calls for Assistance — Several Areas Still Closed

A severe thunderstorm with gusty winds swept through Erlangen and the surrounding region early Tuesday evening. In the city limits alone, the fire department was called out more than 200 times. The heaviest activity was in the southern part of the city, including the neighborhoods of Frauenaurach, Bruck, Eltersdorf, and Tennenlohe. Cleanup efforts are ongoing.

Four men in suits are holding yellow protest signs with slogans such as “Empty coffers are no child’s play,” “Park maintenance” (crossed out), “Municipalities at their limit,” and “Without the municipality, the pool stays dry” in a lavish interior.

Nationwide Day of Action: “Municipalities at Their Limit”

The mayors of Nuremberg, Fürth, Erlangen, and Schwabach supported the nationwide day of action “Municipalities at the Limit,” organized by the leading municipal associations, on Monday, June 22, 2026. Together, they drew attention to the dramatic financial situation facing cities and municipalities and called on the federal and state governments to take decisive action.
