The living space in m² per person is calculated from the total living space in apartments and other residential units outside of homes in relation to persons with main and secondary residence in Erlangen, excluding the population of homes.

• The City of Erlangen has purchased the occupancy rights to a total of 598 privately financed apartments from the portfolio of GEWOBAU mbH of the City of Erlangen for 20 years, which are not included in the total of social housing. In the contractual agreement, the city set Gewobau a rental price per m² that is roughly in line with the social housing level. Although these "apartments with occupancy rights" are also allocated exclusively with a certificate of eligibility for housing, these apartments are NOT social housing, as they are no longer subject to social rent control under the Housing Assistance Act.
