Important information about replacing the heating system
Stand: 28.05.2024
Here you will find all the important information about the Building Energy Act (GEG) and heating replacement.
The new federal heating subsidy was launched on January 1, 2024, at the same time as the Renewable Heating Act (amendment to the Building Energy Act - GEG).
Further information can be found at BMWK - The new heating subsidy strengthens the energy transition in the building sector.
The Building Energy Act (GEG) is the starting signal for the switch to heating with renewable energies. It initiates a comprehensive modernization of the heating supply in Germany: With more district heating and more efficient, economical and climate-friendly heating technology, heating policy in Germany is now on a sustainable course after years of stagnation. The new regulations provide consumers, the housing industry, the heating industry and the skilled trades with a clear guideline for their investment decisions. Renewable energies can thus become the standard in the building sector and gradually replace climate-damaging heating systems based on natural gas or oil. Climate protection and energy security will make reliable progress year after year with this law.
From 1.1.2024, every new heating system installed in new-build areas must use at least 65 percent renewable energy.
energy.
For existing buildings and new buildings in gaps between buildings, this requirement will apply in large cities from 30.06.2026
Existing heating systems are not affected by the regulations and can continue to be used.
Even if a repair is due, there is no need to replace the heating system.
Homeowners are free to choose between different types of heating. The Building Energy Act contains many transitional provisions, for example if there is a prospect of connection to a heating network.
There is financial support for switching to heating with renewable energies in the form of
grants, loans or tax incentives.
