Launch of the “Protection Against Violence” Action Plan
Stand: 21.10.2026
The City Council approved the development of the City of Erlangen’s first Gender Equality Action Plan on the topic of “Protection Against Violence: Combating Gender-Based and Domestic Violence.”
With the City of Erlangen’s accession to the Charter for Gender Equality in November 2025, the city is obligated to develop an initial action plan within two years and subsequently implement it. The City Council selected the topic “Protection Against Violence: Combating Gender-Based and Domestic Violence”. The overarching goal is to jointly develop sustainable solutions and measures to protect against gender-based and domestic violence. All interested individuals, initiatives, and institutions are cordially invited to actively participate in this process. We will keep you informed about the next steps and opportunities for participation.
First Step: Assessing the Current Situation Through an Organizational Survey
The first step involves conducting a comprehensive assessment. To this end, the Office for Gender Equality, in collaboration with the city’s Department of Statistics and Urban Research, has created an online survey. It is aimed at organizations and institutions that
- work in the field of protection against violence or
- come into contact (or could come into contact) with people affected by violence in their work.
Through broad participation by local experts, the goal is first to gain as comprehensive and multifaceted an overview of the current situation as possible.
The goals of the survey are:
- to identify existing service structures and potential gaps in care
- to identify internal and external networking structures and highlight synergies
- to gather approaches and ideas for the long-term and sustainable optimization of collaboration and meeting needs
- to lay the groundwork for future, participatory development of measures
Step Two: Kickoff event for the joint development of the action plan
The initial findings from the survey will be presented and discussed at the kickoff event for the development of the gender equality action plan in November 2026. On this day, through a broad-based participatory process involving experts in the field of violence prevention and committed representatives from various organizations, key areas for focus will be identified and priorities set. In addition, initial approaches and proposals for measures will be discussed, and further steps in the process for the action plan will be considered.
Step Three: Public Survey on Protection Against Violence
The City of Erlangen’s next public survey will begin in the fall of 2026. This survey will include a separate section of questions on the topic of protection against violence. This will give you, as a citizen, the opportunity to share your experiences, assessments, and suggestions, thereby actively helping to shape the development of the action plan. The results of the public survey will be incorporated into the further development of measures and will help ensure that the needs and perspectives of Erlangen’s residents are fully taken into account.
More information and the link to participate will be available starting in late October on the City of Erlangen’s website and also here
