Gender equality
Gender equality
The Equal Opportunities Office supports all residents of Erlangen and the employees of Erlangen City Council. We want to realize the fundamental right to gender equality in all areas of social life and see this as a cross-sectional task.
A portrait of the Equal Opportunities Office can be found in the city newspaper "Rathausplatz 1" - March 2025 issue.
We work to ensure that the equality of women, men and all genders is taken into account in measures, decisions and plans by the city. Together with other institutions and committed individuals, we develop projects and create offers for citizens in the area of gender equality.
We are your point of contact if you need advice and support in cases of gender discrimination, whether in the workplace, in public spaces or in the social environment. We provide advice and mediation on issues such as balancing family responsibilities and work, problems with colleagues and superiors or experiencing sexual harassment. You are also welcome to contact us if you need information on networks, facilities or specialist and advice centers. We provide information on all topics relating to gender equality.
Our advice is always strictly confidential.
The Istanbul Convention, the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, was adopted in 2011 and came into force as an international treaty in August 2014. It creates binding legal standards to prevent and combat gender-based and domestic violence. In February 2018, the Istanbul Convention came into force as a federal law in Germany.
