Erlangen Declaration on Diversity, Respect, and Tolerance

In its 10th anniversary year, the Office for Equal Opportunity and Diversity / International Relations focused on bringing together various stakeholders in the city’s civil society. Working together in solidarity, 2,025 dedicated members of Erlangen’s urban community—representing a wide range of sectors in civil society, business, and academia—drafted the “Erlangen Declaration on Diversity, Respect, and Tolerance.” We would like to briefly outline the process that led to this declaration.

"Future elementary school and all-day care" program

From the 2026/2027 school year, the legal entitlement for primary school children will come into force, initially for year 1. This will be successively extended to the other grades in the following years. The legal entitlement is intended to guarantee all-day education and childcare for schoolchildren. As a result, the city of Erlangen is obliged to consider how youth welfare services and schools can ensure the legal entitlement, to take appropriate measures and, in particular, to make elementary school "structurally fit" for this.
