Erlangen Declaration on Diversity, Respect, and Tolerance
In its 10th anniversary year, the Office for Equal Opportunity and Diversity / International Relations focused on bringing together various stakeholders in the city’s community. Working together, 2,025 dedicated members of Erlangen’s community—drawing from a wide range of sectors in civil society, business, and academia—drafted the “Erlangen Declaration on Diversity, Respect, and Tolerance.” We’d like to briefly outline how this came about.
Commemorating the Victims of Racist Violence
10 + 1 — The city of Erlangen commemorates the nine people with immigrant backgrounds and one policewoman who were murdered by the NSU between 2000 and 2007. In the summer of 2018, the verdict was handed down in the NSU trial, a verdict that is unsatisfactory for the victims and their surviving relatives as well as for the democratically minded public.
Conversion of Ukrainian Driver's Licenses
As of August 18, 2026, Ukraine has been officially included in Annex 11 of the Driver’s License Regulation (FeV). As a result, holders of valid Ukrainian driver’s licenses generally have the option of having their licenses converted to a German driver’s license for the license classes listed there without having to retake the written and driving tests.
New Hours of Operation for the Immigration Office's Welcome Desk
New opening hours will apply to the Foreigners' Registration Office's welcome desk going forward.
