Landscape Conservation and Nature Parks; Applying for Funding

The Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection also provides grants for nature-friendly recreational activities both within and outside nature parks.

Measures in accordance with the Landscape Conservation and Nature Park Guidelines (LNPR) serve to

• preserve and develop nature and the landscape as the basis of life, the environment, and recreational areas for people,
• to secure or re-establish habitats for endangered or threatened animal and plant species,
• achieve the objectives pursued through the protection of areas and individual natural features,
• make local nature and the landscape accessible to the public in a nature-friendly manner and convey their ecological value,
• to realize the goals of nature conservation and landscape management contained in plans pursuant to Article 4 of the Bavarian Nature Conservation Act (BayNatSchG),
• to develop, maintain, and manage a statewide network of habitats,
• to contribute to the preservation and development of the European Natura 2000 ecological network.

Recreation measures serve to preserve and develop nature-friendly recreational uses based on the management and development plans.

Grant Recipients

• Local government bodies and their associations,
• landscape conservation associations, as well as clubs and organizations dedicated to nature conservation and landscape conservation in accordance with their bylaws,
• Owners or possessors of the properties designated for measures, and nature park authorities

Both the application process and the entire approval procedure are handled digitally via the specialized IT application “Luna.Natur.” To receive an invitation to register a user ID, please contact your local lower-level nature conservation authority at the district office or the independent city.

Applications are submitted to the approving authority via the district administrative authority (lower-level nature conservation authority).

The approving authority is the locally competent government (higher nature conservation authority).

Applications for grants under the Landscape Conservation and Nature Park Guidelines (LNPR) are currently accepted in several phases each year—summer and winter. The deadline for the current application round for the 2026 summer measures is March 27, 2026.

Applications for the 2026 winter measures can then be submitted until the deadline of July 24, 2026.
