Apply for a seasonal license plate
You can use this online application to apply for a seasonal license plate for your vehicle.
Some vehicles are often driven on public roads only during a specific time of year. If this period remains the same every year—for example, from April to October—it may be advisable to register the vehicle with a seasonal license plate.
Convenient and digital: Simply fill out this online application directly in your web browser. In many cases, this saves you a trip to the government office.
The Vehicle Registration Ordinance (FZV) provides the legal option to use motor vehicles on public roads only during a specific period of the year. This can be achieved by de-registering and re-registering the vehicle.
However, if the periods of use are the same every year, the option of so-calledseasonal registrationisavailable. The period of use is indicated on the license plate in full months. Registration can be granted for a minimum of two and a maximum of 11 months per year. Splitting the registration into several shorter periods per year is not permitted.
Once registered in this manner, the vehicles may be used each year during the specified operating period without having to visit the registration authority again. Safety inspections falling during the non-operating period may be rescheduled for the first month of the next operating period. During the rest of the year, the vehicles may not be driven or parked on public roads.

You can apply for a seasonal license plate at the appropriate vehicle registration office.

For vehicles with general operating approval or EU type approval, you must pay 30.00 euros.
If you want a personalized license plate, this fee increases by 10.20 euros.
If a registration certificate has not yet been issued, additional fees apply.
The fees are increased by the fee charged by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (between 0.60 and 3.80 euros), as well as the fees for document seals (0.30 euros each) and, if applicable, a reservation fee (2.60 euros).
You must obtain the license plates yourself from private providers at your own expense.
