Waste; disposal

The administrative districts and independent cities in Bavaria are responsible for waste disposal in their area. If you have any questions about the disposal facilities (location, opening hours, etc.) or the disposal fees, please contact your district or city.

Many types of waste are collected separately as recyclable materials. What these are in detail, how they are collected and what ultimately belongs to residual waste is regulated in the Recycling Management Act (KrWG) and in the municipal waste statutes.

The waste advisory services of the municipalities (districts, independent cities) or waste associations can provide information on this. These are responsible for waste disposal within the framework of waste legislation and provide collection and delivery systems. The focus here is on measures to support material recycling.

• Collection systems include waste collection, the yellow garbage can, the paper and green waste/biodegradable waste garbage can and the yellow bag, if it is collected.
• Bring systems are recycling islands (especially for glass, metal, textiles) and recycling centers.

The more convenient collection is for the citizen, i.e. closer to the household, the greater the collection volume. The greater the individual's knowledge of correct separation and awareness of this responsibility, the purer the collection as a prerequisite for high-quality recycling.

Shared (split) residual waste bin

The 60 liter residual waste garbage can is the smallest service unit in the city of Erlangen. To further reduce charges, it is possible to share a residual waste garbage can with a like-minded neighbor. A maximum of two people can share a residual waste garbage can. One of the residual waste garbage cans will be withdrawn and the charges for both neighbors will be reduced accordingly. However, both parties can still make use of all other waste management services.

Owners can order, reorder or cancel their waste garbage cans by telephone or in writing.

Bulky waste registration

Every household in Erlangen has the opportunity to have their bulky waste collected directly from their home once a year. In addition, private households can deliver their bulky waste in normal household quantities directly to the waste transfer station free of charge.

Waste calendar

The waste calendar is individually tailored to your home address, garbage can combination and collection frequency. All you have to do is enter the street name. A notification function makes it possible to have an automatic reminder e-mail sent to you when you need to put out your own garbage cans or bags.

Self-composting application

You can submit an application for home composting of organic and garden waste. This gives you the opportunity to reduce the amount of your waste disposal fee.

You are registered at your place of residence.

Joint (shared) residual waste bin

We require a written application from both parties to split the fee.

You are a homeowner in the administrative area of the city of Erlangen.

Only citizens of the city of Erlangen can apply for this service.

Self-composting application

You must compost all biodegradable waste on your own property. You must also recycle the compost you produce there. You must commit to this in writing and meet the necessary conditions (at least 50 m² of undeveloped land per resident).

Most of the responsible authorities issue waste calendars. These contain the collection dates and types of collection.

After making an appointment, you will receive a collection or provision date.

Waste disposal usually takes place on specific dates.

The costs are based on the municipal fee statutes.
