A corpse passport is required for repatriations within Germany or abroad if the country to which the body is to be repatriated or a country touched during the journey requires a corpse passport.

Applying for a corpse passport
You can use this online application to apply for a corpse passport.
Citizen-friendly and digital: simply complete this online application directly via your internet browser. In many cases, this will save you a trip to the authorities.
The corpse passport is issued by the municipality in whose territory the transportation begins. The corpse passport can only be issued if the required documents have been submitted.
The death certificate and, in the case of suspected non-natural death, the burial permit in accordance with § 159 Para. 2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure must be presented. In the case of transfers abroad, the registry office must have noted on the death certificate that the death has been certified or that certification has been postponed.

The registry office and the cemetery administration of the city of Erlangen will only be open on Thursday, March 27, 2025 from 08:00 to 09:30. From Friday, March 28, 2025, we will be available for you again during the usual opening hours.
