With this online application, you can reserve and apply for your desired license plate number online.
Convenient and digital: Simply fill out this online application directly in your web browser. In many cases, this saves you a trip to the government office.
For a fee, you can apply for a personalized license plate or have one reserved in advance.
Transferring a license plate to another vehicle also counts as a personalized license plate, regardless of whether the plate was previously assigned “as a personalized plate” or was in use as a so-called standard license plate.
Please note: You can only obtain a personalized license plate as part of the vehicle registration process. Changing a license plate combination assigned to a vehicle after the fact is only possible for an additional fee.
Vehicle registration authorities offer an online service on the Internet. At most vehicle registration authorities, you can also reserve or apply for a personalized license plate in person, in writing, or by phone.

The desired license plate number will be reserved for 90 days. If you need to extend the reservation, you can do so by phone (+ (49) 09131 / 86 - 1616) or in person at the Citizen Services Office.
Possible number combinations are:
1 letter + 3 numbers
1 letter + 4 numbers
2 letters + 2 numbers
Shorter combinations, such as those for motorcycles or U.S. vehicles, are available only upon request.
