Informationen
The registration of the vehicle is terminated when it is taken out of service. The most common case is the sale of the vehicle. Until a new buyer is found, the vehicle tax and insurance are saved. Another main reason is to decommission motorcycles, caravans and convertibles during the winter months.
Decommissioning can be carried out at any registration authority. Information about the registration authorities in Bavaria can be found under "Further links".
You can reserve your license plate for the purpose of re-registration (see "Related topics").
Vehicles can also be taken out of service via the Internet. The prerequisite for this is an electronic ID card with signature function and that the new releasable security codes are already on the license plate and registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document).
These stickers and the new vehicle registration certificate samples have been issued with every registration process (if required) since January 1, 2015.
If a vehicle of category M1, N1 or L5e is handed over to a recognized body for recovery, the previous keeper or owner must have this vehicle decommissioned immediately at the competent registration authority by submitting proof of recovery. The registration authority enters the data in the register and issues the certificate of destruction again after checking it (Section 17 (1) sentences 1 and 2 FZV).
The registration certificate Part I and Part II must be handed over to the registration authority immediately after the recovery. The registration authority must confiscate and destroy the registration certificate Part I and Part II.
The same applies if the vehicle is disposed of in another EU/EEA member state or in a third country.
Decommissioning is entered in the registration certificate part I.
It can also be carried out online. It is then carried out automatically and takes effect immediately after the entries have been completed. The owner receives confirmation of the deregistration by post.
This requires the security codes of the registration certificate part I and the license plates to be entered.
You can access the Internet-based processes on the portal of your registration authority. You will also find further information there.
Information on the online procedures of the registration authorities can be found under "Further links".
