Erlangen Alliance for Families
The Erlangen Alliance for Families is a network of many players - associations, working groups, companies, clubs, groups, social organizations and individuals - who are jointly committed to families in Erlangen. The common goal of all partners is to make the city even more family-friendly. The city of Erlangen is a partner in the Erlangen Alliance for Families. The City Youth Welfare Office provides the management of the Erlangen Alliance for Families. It coordinates the Alliance's projects, activities and initiatives. A particular focus is on the commitment to reconciling family and career. This concerns both work and childcare as well as work and caring for older family members.
An important offer for working parents and their children is the "Erlangen Holiday Care for School Children" program, which is set up every school year and offers a wide range of childcare options for all school vacations.

Parent-child groups in Erlangen
Parent-child groups are self-organized meetings of parents with their children from 0 to 2 years to play, gain new experiences and socialize. The participating parents organize the meetings, which usually take place once a week, themselves and contribute their own experiences from family, work and hobbies. At the group meetings, the children come into contact with children of the same age and gain important social experience.
The parents have the opportunity to exchange ideas with each other and actively shape their time together with their children. In the parent-child groups, neighborly or friendly contacts with other parents can develop beyond the regular meetings. New members are welcome in many groups.
Supervised playgroups in Erlangen
In supervised playgroups, children from the age of 2 are usually looked after by a permanent caregiver (usually an employed specialist). The caregiver is supported by parents who are involved in the group activities. Supervised playgroups are organized by parents themselves, usually as registered associations.
A participation fee is charged for childcare, which is determined by the childcare association. Playgroup care usually takes place on two to three fixed mornings a week. In supervised playgroups, children gain social experience and learn how to interact with their peers. Experience has shown that attending a supervised playgroup can make the transition to kindergarten easier for children.
