The driving license for passenger transport is valid for a maximum of 5 years. It can be extended for up to five years at a time upon application by the holder.

The extension must be applied for at the driving license authority responsible for the place of residence (= district office or independent city).

• Proof of personal reliability
• Proof of mental and physical aptitude
• Fulfillment of the vision requirements

• As a rule, you will need the following documents:
  
  • valid identity card or passport
  • German driver's license
  • Previous driving license for passenger transport
  • Certificate of good conduct for submission to an authority
  • Proof of eyesight by means of a medical examination certificate (from an ophthalmologist, doctor with the specialist title "occupational medicine", doctor with the additional title "occupational medicine", doctor at an officially recognized assessment body for fitness to drive, doctor from the public health department or other doctor from the public administration) or certificate of ophthalmological examination (not older than 2 years) (see Section 12 (6) in conjunction with Annex 6 No. 2 FeV)
  • Medical certificate of physical and mental aptitude (not older than 1 year) (see § 11 paragraph 9 in conjunction with Annex 5 No. 1 FeV)
  • if the license is to be extended beyond the age of 60: Expert opinion on the resilience, orientation, concentration, attention and reaction performance of an occupational or company physician or, alternatively, an officially recognized assessment body for driving fitness (not older than 1 year) (see § 11 paragraph 9 in conjunction with Annex 5 No. 2 FeV)
