ErlangenPass

People can receive an ErlangenPass if they live in Erlangen and

a) receive one of these benefits:

- Citizen's allowance
- assistance for living expenses
- Basic income support in old age and in the event of reduced earning capacity
- Benefits according to the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act
- housing benefit
- War victims' welfare
- Child supplement
- Benefits for living expenses in foster families or youth welfare facilities

b) voluntary service, such as

- the Federal Voluntary Service,
- a voluntary social or
- an ecological year

c) who do not receive social benefits, but whose household has little income available. In this case, you can apply for an ErlangenPass by means of a calculation. You are eligible for the ErlangenPass if your assets and household income are below the relevant asset and income limits for you. You can use our online calculator for an initial assessment of whether you are likely to be below the income limit.

Asset limit:
The current asset limit is 60,000 euros for a single person and 30,000 euros for each additional household member.
A condominium or single-family home that you live in yourself is a protected asset. You do not have to declare this. Other assets at home and abroad count as realizable assets.

Income limits:
The monthly net income of the household, less any allowances and charges to be taken into account, is decisive here.

Single person: 1836 euros
Two-person household: 2345 euros
Three-person household: 2803 euros

Four-person household: 3404 euros
Five-person household: 3942 euros
Six-person household: 4527 euros

You can obtain the ErlangenPass on application at the Social Welfare Office of the City of Erlangen.
In addition to the application form, we also require the following documents:
a) If you receive social benefits, please submit a current benefit notification or a corresponding certificate.
b) If you are doing one of the above-mentioned voluntary services, please submit your volunteer card or proof of volunteer status.
c) If you would like to apply for an ErlangenPass by means of a calculation, please submit current proof of income in the form of bank statements.
If further documents are required for the calculation, you will receive a corresponding document request from us. If you have income from self-employment, agriculture or forestry, please submit your income tax assessment or, if you have not yet received it, your business plan. If you have income from renting and leasing, please submit a bank statement or your income tax assessment.

The ErlangenPass is issued for at least one year. The exact month of expiry is noted on the ErlangenPass. The ErlangenPass can be extended after expiry if you are still eligible.
The ErlangenPass remains valid until the month of expiry printed on it, even if the basic benefit is discontinued or income changes.

The ErlangenPass must always be presented with an identification document (identity card, passport, etc.).

The ErlangenPass is not transferable to third parties.

If you move away from Erlangen, the ErlangenPass must be returned. The ErlangenPass can be confiscated in the event of misuse.
