Büchenbach Project

As part of the Erlangen-West II urban development project, the city is developing new residential areas on 35 hectares in Büchenbach-West. A total of approximately 1,170 new housing units (230 single-family homes and 940 multi-story apartments) will be built in the development area. The project will be implemented in several construction phases, each for which separate zoning plans will be drawn up. The city purchases the land in the development area, secures building permits, and develops the properties. The city then sells the developed building lots to prospective homebuyers, developers, or building cooperatives. The construction of the West Community Center was also part of the urban development project. Currently, no city-owned building lots are for sale.

The federal-state-municipal urban development program “Social Cohesion” aims to secure and further develop the potential of Büchenbach-Nord as a neighborhood with a high quality of life and strong capacity for integration through joint, interagency action.

The construction of a new community center—including a neighborhood library—in the Büchenbach-West neighborhood will create a sociocultural hub and an innovative, versatile, open, and creative gathering place in the western part of the city.
