City center without looking for a parking space
Stand: 28.05.2024
Since March, a new parking fee regulation has been in place to encourage drivers to park in the city center.
This is because there is free capacity in the multi-storey and underground parking lots around the city center at all times of the day. Shops, restaurants and cultural institutions in the city center can be reached from there free of charge by bus or on foot. The aim is to relieve the city center of unnecessary parking traffic. For those who have to travel by car, it will be easier to find a parking space.
Until now, the charges for parking in public areas have been very low compared to parking garages. This will change from March. The fees in the area between
- railroad line
- Schwabach
- Loewenichstraße
- Werner-von-Siemens-Straße
will be one euro for the first half hour. For each additional hour, the legally permitted maximum amount of 2.60 euros per hour will be charged. The fee for the large parking lot, on the other hand, will remain significantly lower at 1.50 euros per hour.
Lord Mayor Florian Janik: "We are directing those who spend longer in the city center to the parking facilities around the city center. At the same time, we offer a convenient way to get from A to B with the free bus service. Those who have to travel by car will find it easier to find a parking space. At the same time, we want to ensure that the city center is relieved of traffic searching for a parking space. Above all, this will also benefit the retail sector in the city center."
Planning officer Harald Lang: "Cars take up a lot of space in cities. We need to reorganize the scarce public space and distribute it more fairly in order to meet the many different needs of residents, traders, craftsmen or visitors, cyclists or pedestrians."
