The production time for a passport is currently around six weeks. It currently takes three weeks for an ID card.
Before the Easter and Whitsun vacations, the Citizens' Office recommends that all those wishing to travel check the validity of their documents such as passports and ID cards. If the documents are no longer valid or will expire in the next few weeks, a new document must be applied for.
Applications for new documents can be made at the Citizens' Service on the first floor of the town hall. An appointment is not necessary. It is open on the following days:
- Monday (except March 9, from 12:00 noon), Tuesday, Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 to 12:00.
However, it is also possible to make an appointment(book an appointment).
The production time for a passport is currently around six weeks. It currently takes three weeks for an identity card. The documents are produced at the Bundesdruckerei. The city of Erlangen has no influence on the production time.

Passport and identification
The citizen service and information desk on the first floor of the town hall (applying for ID cards, re-registration, driving license matters, certificates of good conduct, vehicle registration, resident parking permits and parking permits for the severely disabled) will not open until 12:00 instead of 8:00 on Monday, March 9. This is due to necessary follow-up work for the local elections.
