Erlangen-Southeast

Stand: 30.10.2024

The city of Erlangen has decided to initiate urban development studies to upgrade and stabilize the urban area in the southeast of Erlangen. These studies and the necessary measures are subsidized by the urban development program "Social Cohesion" (formerly "Socially Integrative City").

The prerequisite for funding was the creation of an integrated urban development concept (ISEK). An external planning office was commissioned to draw up this ISEK.

The final report of the ISEK Erlangen Südost has been available since fall 2017 and can be downloadedherein a short and long version. The printed short version of the report can be sent on request.

The study area included the districts of Rathenau, Röthelheim, Sebaldus and part of Röthelheimpark.

The urban development program "Social Cohesion" (formerly "Socially Integrative City") is an important component of the federal government's urban development policy. It focuses on the stabilization and upgrading of urban districts and promotes investment in the residential environment, infrastructure and quality of housing, for example. In addition, the program aims to promote vibrant neighborhoods and strengthen social cohesion.

In the "Erlangen - Südost" area with the above-mentioned districts, both urban development and structural deficiencies as well as various socio-demographic problems can be identified. Due to this situation, the city of Erlangen sees a comprehensive need for action here.

The development concept examined in particular

  • how the housing situation in the existing buildings can be improved
  • how the residential environment can be improved
  • what possibilities exist for redensification
  • how disadvantaged population groups can be better integrated
  • whether social infrastructure facilities such as meeting places can be created or improved

Intensive public participation is important here in order to bring together as many of those affected and involved as possible. By involving citizens, new ideas can be developed, better results achieved and the acceptance of measures increased.

The objectives of urban renewal are derived from the analyzed deficiencies and deficits in the urban renewal area as part of detailed preparatory studies. In turn, the necessary urban development and other measures are derived from these. They are implemented in concrete terms via an integrated action plan.
