Future Made in Erlangen

Erlangen has once again maintained its top position in the renowned Prognos Future Atlas. In the nationwide ranking, which examines the future viability of cities and regions, Erlangen is the best rated city. Only the district of Munich is ahead of the Huguenot city.
In addition to individual factors such as the labor market, an overview of future projects in Germany also highlights numerous examples from Erlangen. These include projects
- the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits
- the Friedrich-Alexander University
- the Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nuremberg
- Siemens
- the University Hospital.
Mention is also made of important urban development projects in the area of the former Siemens-Mitte quarter as well as the city-county railroad between Nuremberg, Erlangen and Herzogenaurach.

The company has been building a new district in the south of the city since 2016. The investment volume amounts to around 1 billion euros.

CITABLE
CITABLE (Center for Immunotherapy, Biophysics & Digital Medicine) is a state-of-the-art research building at Erlangen University Hospital. It will drive forward pioneering developments in immunotherapy, biophysics and digital medicine. Construction of the new building was completed by the end of 2025. The commissioning phase and rectification of defects are now underway. At the end of this phase, users are expected to move in in fall 2026.

As a sustainable and efficient transport alternative, the Stadt-Umland-Bahn (StUB) is to connect the cities of Nuremberg, Erlangen and Herzogenaurach and also the communities to the east of Erlangen.
Pioneering urban district project
The project follows innovative and ecological approaches. Residential space with commercial space is planned.
Reception at city hall: Fraunhofer IIS receives EMMY® Award
Great honor for the research location Erlangen: Lord Mayor Florian Janik received the team from the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS in the town hall on October 27. The team received the prestigious EMMY® Award for Engineering, Science & Technology for the development of the JPEG XS video codec standard.
