Climate awakening

Erlangen wants to achieve climate neutrality across the entire city by 2030. A unique project has been launched to achieve this. With the "Climate Awakening Roadmap", an entire city has been setting out since fall 2022 to make its contribution to curbing global warming.

In order to achieve climate neutrality in the city before 2030, a wide range of measures are required. Together with climate-relevant representatives from business, science, administration and initiatives, the Erlangen Citizens' Council Climate Awakening 2022 has developed the "Climate Awakening Roadmap" catalog of measures. The 41 measures that have now been adopted should be adopted by as many people in Erlangen as possible so that the necessary impact can be achieved. In the "City Contract Climate", all committed citizens and organizations can join the Climate Awakening by making their own climate protection contributions (www.erlangen.de/mein-beitrag). The city administration started in 2023 with 14 lighthouse measures that have a particularly high CO2 savings potential. The entire catalog of measures forms the basis of the city's actions. The administration and municipal subsidiaries are required to specify and implement the measures.

Budget funds are currently used primarily for
- the installation of photovoltaic systems on municipal buildings,
- renovation and replacement of fossil fuel heating systems in municipal buildings,

- subsidies for private energy-saving measures.
- "Climate budget" funding program for all citizens who want to implement non-profit climate protection projects
- "Energy saving and use of renewable energies" funding program and free energy advice
- Participation in the Climate Awakening Roadmap as part of the Climate City Contract
- Participation of institutions for the climate center concept (one-stop store: fit for the future)
- Participation of companies, science, organizations and initiatives as part of the "Climate-neutral Erlangen Alliance"
