Supervision of Civil Registry Offices; Conducting Supervisory Audits

The Civil Registry Supervisory Authority exercises technical oversight over the civil registry offices in the county or independent city.

Supervisory inspections are conducted at regular intervals. The supervisory inspection includes an on-site review of the civil registry offices, focusing in particular on

• the organizational and staffing situation, including the suitability of the registrars, and the
• an assessment of the work performed by the civil registrars.

The duties of civil registry supervision also include, for example:

• Review of civil status records
• Registration of subsequent civil status records
• Pre-certification of documents for use abroad
• Assisting with the subsequent registration of civil status cases involving foreign elements
• Assistance with judicial correction proceedings
• Assistance with verifying the legal validity of foreign documents and judgments
