Supervision of the registry offices is carried out as lower supervisory authorities by the independent municipalities for their registry offices and the district offices as state authorities.

The registry office supervisory authority exercises professional supervision over the registry offices in the district or city.
Supervisory audits are carried out at regular intervals. The supervisory audit includes the local inspection of the registry offices and in particular
- the organizational and personnel situation, including the suitability of the registrars, and
- reviewing the work of the registrars.
The tasks of registry office supervision also include, for example
- Examination of civil status registers
- Entry of subsequent certifications
- Pre-authentication of documents for use abroad
- Assistance with subsequent certifications of civil status cases with foreign implications
- Assistance with judicial rectification procedures
- Assistance in checking the legal validity of foreign deeds and judgments
