Digital Cemetery Map of Erlangen
The digital cemetery map for municipal cemeteries is now available. You can use the search function to find specific graves by name or grave number. The exact location of the grave is displayed. You can use GPS to get directions directly to the grave you’re looking for. Information on available graves is also provided.
Register a Funeral
You can use this online form to register a funeral.
Convenient and digital: Simply fill out this online application directly in your web browser. In many cases, this saves you a trip to the government office.
The bodies and cremated remains of the deceased must, as a general rule (except in the case of burials at sea), be interred in a cemetery. It is the responsibility of the municipalities to establish and maintain the burial facilities necessary for the burial of their residents. The allocation of a grave site by the municipality requires that a right of use for the grave be granted (for more information, see “Grave Site; Applying for a Right of Use” under “Related Topics”).
The municipalities regulate the details regarding the use of burial facilities and the conduct of funerals through a bylaw or ordinance.

A Place to Combat Loneliness. Benches in the cemetery provide a respectful and discreet setting that invites people to strike up a conversation with one another.
We all share a desire for companionship and connection. But sometimes it’s a real challenge to find these moments in everyday life. We often experience loneliness especially during stressful situations, times of personal loss, or when facing changes in our social lives.
To counteract this, the city of Erlangen has launched an initiative: the B(P)lauderbänke. These are meeting benches in the cemetery that stand out thanks to their cheerful blue color (Photo: Registry Office). They invite people to take a seat, strike up a conversation, and exchange thoughts and ideas. If you sit down on the bench, you’re signaling to others: “Feel free to join me and say hello. I’m open to a conversation and look forward to connecting.” The social benches aren’t just for cemetery visitors. They’re there for anyone who’s looking to have a conversation or simply wants some company. You’ll find the B(P)lauderbänke in grave sections 51 and 54 at the Central Cemetery.
The cemetery, a traditional place of silence and remembrance, offers a special opportunity through these benches to strike up a conversation with others in a respectful and discreet setting. Especially in times of increasing loneliness, places like these are invaluable.
