Adult Education Center; Registration, Change of Registration, and Withdrawal

Adult education centers offer a wide range of courses in the following program areas

• Basic Education – School Diplomas

The programs are tailored to participants’ interests in orientation, education, and skill development. They are designed to help participants realize their individual potential, pursue continuing vocational education, and update their qualifications, thereby contributing to social integration.

By offering courses in literacy, basic education, and the opportunity to earn missed school diplomas, adult education centers also provide a second chance for educationally disadvantaged groups. Since the “Immigration Act” took effect, they have served as providers of integration courses nationwide. Certificates play a particularly important role in foreign languages and vocational training and address the need for recognized proof of achievement.

Programs that span multiple areas (e.g., Young Adults at Adult Education Centers, Senior Education, intercultural learning), programs tailored to specific target groups and social contexts, as well as customized (corporate) offerings, complement the traditional course offerings, as do e-learning and blended learning programs, some of which are integrated into the work of newly designed “learning centers.” Adult education centers (VHS) take on new service functions, such as providing learning counseling or acting as initiators and facilitators of local networks and collaborations (e.g., in the “Learning Regions” program).

Information about the courses, seminars, lectures, and exhibitions offered by the adult education center in a municipality or county can be found on the website of the municipality, the county, or the adult education center.

At the Erlangen Adult Education Center (vhs), you can register by mail, fax, email, in person, or—as recommended by the vhs—online. Registrations are processed in the order in which they are received. The vhs will confirm your registration with a registration confirmation. Participation in vhs events is not permitted without a valid registration. An exception to this is the first class session for language courses. In this case, registration must be completed by the second class date at the latest.

Registration for naturalization tests can only be done in writing or in person. The registration deadline is no later than 5 weeks before the respective test date, provided there are still spots available. The vhs will confirm your registration with a confirmation letter. Your registration is not complete until the vhs has confirmed it (upon receipt of the correctly filled-out forms).

Registration for the placement test for integration courses can be done in person at the service office or by email.

If you wish to change courses, please contact the vhs. The vhs will attempt to find a suitable alternative course within the same department. The change of registration must be made in writing immediately after the first day of class. Once the change has been made, withdrawal is not permitted.

Registration for fee-based courses is binding and requires payment of the course fee. If, for compelling reasons, it becomes necessary to withdraw from the booked course, cancellation is possible. The cancellation policy set forth in the current General Terms and Conditions (GTC) applies.

As a general rule, fees and expenses are charged for participation in events. The amounts are listed in the respective course descriptions.

Not all events organized by vhs Erlangen take place in venues that are accessible to people with mobility impairments. For more information on this, as well as for people with hearing impairments, please see "Accessibility" under "Services."

Any person who is eager to learn and has reached the age of 15 may participate in the Adult Education Center’s courses. A higher or lower minimum age may be set for individual courses.

You must register at least seven days before the course begins.
An exception to this is the first class in the language program. For these courses, registration must be completed by the second class date at the latest.

If a different registration deadline is specified in the course description (for example, for language exams or naturalization tests), that deadline applies.

If you wish to switch courses, please notify us. We will try to accommodate you and find a suitable alternative course within the same department. The change of registration must be submitted in writing immediately after the first day of class.
