Since 2016, the City of Erlangen has been awarding annual grants to support environmental education. The goal is to strengthen environmental education in Erlangen and to embed education for sustainable development in the city.
Funding is provided for projects and ongoing initiatives

- that serve to develop sustainability competencies and environmental awareness
- that are suitable for enhancing the commitment of various target groups to ecologically and socially just development
- that are capable of providing impetus for future-oriented environmental and sustainability education

Grants for environmental education purposes may be awarded to organizations or individuals that are recognized by the tax authorities as nonprofit or charitable, or that pursue noncommercial purposes.
