The Erlangen Environmental Agency regularly offers vacation childcare weeks during the Bavarian school vacations (Whitsun and summer, Monday-Friday) from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Once again this year, the award recognizes the “young generation” for its responsible and forward-looking contributions to shaping our living environment. Applications were accepted through June 30.
Trainer Training on ESD (Education for Sustainable Development)
The ESD Trainer Training is a regular professional development and networking event covering various topics for ESD multipliers and interested individuals in the City Triangle. It is organized by the ESD and environmental education coordinators of the cities of Erlangen and Fürth, the Nuremberg Energy and Environment Station, the Protestant University of Applied Sciences in Nuremberg, and Families for Future Fürth.
ESD Future Workshop—Schools in Urban and Rural Areas of Erlangen Take Action
Every year in early summer, the ESD Action Day “Erlangen Schools in the City and Countryside Set Out on Their Journey” takes place at Hugenottenplatz from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The students serve as points of contact for their sustainability projects, sell handmade items from the school garden or other workshops, and offer hands-on activities.
Klimabiber - Climate and Sustainability Education in Daycare Centers
The ESD project “Klimabiber—Holistic Climate and Sustainability Education in Erlangen Daycare Centers” is a unique, free program offered by the City of Erlangen to 20 daycare centers, providing tailored guidance toward sustainability and climate protection. We support 18 centers and 23 early childhood educators in structurally embedding Education for Sustainable Development and holistic sustainability measures.
ESD Working Group in Schools
Since 2026, the City of Erlangen’s Environmental Office and Education Office have been working with Erlangen’s schools to address the needs and measures identified in the 2024 ESD surveys and the 2025 ESD reports. The goal is for the city to support schools in the structural implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in educational institutions.
