Supplementary pension coverage is the occupational pension plan (company pension) for public-sector employees.

Through the supplementary pension plan, employees covered by collective bargaining agreements receive an occupational pension in addition to the statutory pension insurance. You don’t need to do anything; we’ll automatically enroll you in the BVK supplementary pension plan as soon as you start working for us.

The City of Erlangen, as your employer, pays a monthly contribution toward your occupational pension based on your gross salary. These contributions do not reduce your income, and there is no out-of-pocket cost for employees.

Later, you will receive benefits from the occupational pension in addition to your pension from the statutory pension insurance or a professional pension plan, without any offsetting between the two.

You can use the BVK Zusatzversorgung occupational pension calculator to estimate the amount of your potential employer-funded occupational pension with no obligation. You also have the option to register on the BVK Zusatzversorgung insured members’ portal. There, in addition to many other options, you’ll find an overview of your current pension benefits.
You can manage everything related to your supplemental pension even more conveniently using the “BVK +Rente” app, which is available for Android and iOS.

Deferred compensation is a form of occupational pension plan in which employees forgo future salary entitlements in order to convert them into pension benefits of equal value.

Deferred compensation reduces current taxable income and social security contributions. However, the future payment of pension benefits is subject to income tax and social security contributions.

The Office of Human Resources and Organization cannot provide recommendations.
Please contact the providers directly to obtain comprehensive information about the products, the various tax and social security exemptions, and the long-term implications.
