Study in Erlangen
Stand: 13.03.2025
Lectures in the summer semester start on April 23. Here you can find information about life in our city.
Greetings from the Lord Mayor
Welcome to Erlangen. I am delighted that you have been offered a place to study in our city and that you will be calling Erlangen your home from now on.
When you immerse yourself in our city life, you will meet people from a diverse and international city - people from over 140 countries live in Erlangen. One of the reasons for this is the Friedrich-Alexander University. Every semester, the alma mater hosts many students from abroad. They all study and research together and in the many research institutes in the city. And that makes it exciting and interesting, because many ideas and innovations see the light of day in Erlangen every day and write many a success story. Erlangen is lucky to be home to so many bright minds.
However, we don't just come together at the university or at work. But also at the Bergkirchweih, at exciting festivals such as the Comic Salon, the Poet*innenfest or the Figurentheaterfestival and last but not least in the many clubs in sports, culture and leisure. All of this connects us in Erlangen. We all like being at home here. "Open by tradition" is our motto - we don't just say it, we try to live it every day.
There is a lot for you to do in the near future, the start of your studies has to be organized: Which semester dates must be observed? Where are the lecture hall and library? How do you get the course catalog? And much more. And: If you are new to a city, you have many other questions and lots of things to organize in addition to the classic things to do with studying. We have put together a lot of important information below to help you.
Finally, once again: Welcome! I am sure that you will feel at home in our city, in your temporary home, or even for the time after your studies. I wish you all the best for your studies and every success.
Yours
Dr. Florian Janik
Lord Mayor
