Questions & Answers
Our fleet has been using electric vehicles since 2019.
Wherever possible, we use alternative drive systems for our 226 vehicles. Vehicles with hybrid and gas drives are used for new purchases as well as electric vehicles.
There are currently 11 electric vehicles in use. After electric cars and vans, we are also using electric commercial vehicles for the first time: the small trucks have a tiltable loading area and a possible payload of up to 1,000 kg. They have a range of around 100 km. The emission-free and low-noise vehicles are used to maintain the castle gardens and by the sports department for work around the Dechsendorf pond.

We look after around 40,000 individual trees and groups of trees in urban areas. With a high level of technical equipment and specialist knowledge, we check the traffic safety of trees all year round, monitor the development of young trees and carry out maintenance work on old trees.
Our tasks include regular tree inspections, individual examinations of trees, as well as the recording of trees and the further development of a comprehensive tree register.
Every year, we train 3 gardeners specializing in horticulture and landscaping.
In the vehicle workshop at the municipal depot, we carry out repair, maintenance and overhaul work on all large and small vehicles, transport equipment and construction machinery in the municipal green, waste management and street cleaning operations.
Particular attention is paid to the use of low-noise and low-emission vehicles and machines as well as the use of environmentally friendly fuels and lubricants.
All machines and equipment used for green maintenance, sports field maintenance and tree care are serviced and repaired in our workshop. Here, too, great importance is attached to the use of low-emission fuels and lubricants.
We train junior staff in the depot to become agricultural and construction machinery mechanics (f/m/d).
We take care of the maintenance of the equipment on the municipal playgrounds and football pitches. In addition to the new construction and redesign of playgrounds, the tasks of the construction team also include repairs and the construction of new paths and squares in public green spaces.
This is based on German and European standards.
Every year, 3 gardeners specializing in gardening and landscaping are trained.
Street cleaning and winter safety are part of the so-called traffic safety obligations, such as securing sidewalks in winter.
Roads and cycle paths are maintained by us in winter, while the residents are responsible for the sidewalks themselves.
Pruning trees and shrubs is also one of the duties of residents.
We maintain school sports facilities and football pitches.
Lawn mowing, lawn regeneration measures such as sanding, aerating, scarifying, fertilizing, reseeding and the establishment of new lawns is an essential part of sports field maintenance. Another task is the removal of weeds from running tracks and hard courts. In winter, we primarily maintain equipment such as goals and basketball stands.
Only garden waste is processed at the municipal composting plant. Organic waste from households is loaded at the composting plant and recycled elsewhere.
The garden waste is processed using a rotting process and turned into the quality product "Erlanger Kompost".
"Erl anger Kompost" can be collected in bags or loose, and a delivery service is also available within the city area. Other products such as bark mulch and compost-humus mixtures are also available.
We take care of residual waste and organic waste collection, as well as bulky waste collection.
In Erlangen, waste is collected as a full service, which means that we collect your waste containers from your property for emptying and return them empty. We will therefore visit you every week.
Waste separation has been a top priority since the early 1990s. This is ensured by separate collection via the residual waste and organic waste garbage cans, but also by the use of paper garbage cans, yellow bags and recycling containers for glass. Of course, this separation requirement also applies to bulky waste collection. Metal, wood and electrical appliances are separated from the rest of the bulky waste and sent for recycling.
The most important tasks are the planning and maintenance of green spaces, urban forestry, residual waste and organic waste collection, operation of the composting site, bulky waste collection, street cleaning and winter services, as well as building maintenance for municipal properties and the servicing and maintenance of the municipal vehicle fleet.
